2012 EDITION

Our dream to turn Rome in one of the most important reference point for Model United Nations conferences goes on! After the amazing experience of RomeMUN 2011 with hundreds of students coming from 28 different countries around the world, Giovani nel Mondo association presents the third edition of Rome Model United Nations: the biggest international Model UN conference in Italy.

RomeMUN 2012 will be hosted in UN buildings and university structures based in Rome.

The current world economic crisis has deepened social inequalities between rich and poor countries and urban and rural areas, giving rise to higher numbers of hungry and vulnerable people in the world. The crisis is a consequence of a world economy largely dominated by financial interests that are driven primarily by short-term profitability as the main criterion to measure effective corporate performance. The economic and financial crisis has also produced a crisis of social values marked by uncertainty and a loss of confidence in the future. Starting from this perspective it is necessary that the international community rethinks the priorities for the future and fights for a sustainable and effective business model in order to achieve a more balanced economy, more growth with more equity and a form of development able to focus not only on profit but also on values, rights and liberties.

This is why it is our research committee gladly announces that the 2012 mission of RomeMUN will be: “NEW IMAGES FOR OUR FUTURE: DEVELOPMENT-RESOURCES-COOPERATION”

Issues about social development, sustainability, nuclear disarmament, sustainable energy, gender equality, and greater market access, technology transfer to developing countries, strengthening disaster preparedness in the agricultural sector, water and irrigation management will be some of the topics under discussion during the five-days of simulation of the General Assembly and its sub-committees on next March.

Web Model United Nations
The negotiation process among delegates will begin from January 2011, in fact students may use a forum/ social network online on our website romemun.org for broadening both their knowledge on agenda topics and the negotiation between the different political positions. It is the first case in the world of Web Model United nations, an experiment born to demonstrate that new technologies are useful instruments to fall diplomacy costs in favor of concrete goals to be reached by the United Nations: Web Diplomacy could be a global, useful and chip solution for a better future.
